White Sox ride trio of homers to victory over Twins

Colson Montgomery went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, and the Chicago White Sox pulled away for a 4-1 win over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Friday night.

Miguel Vargas and Braden Montgomery each hit solo homers for Chicago (74-67) in the opener of a three-game series. The AL Central-leading White Sox ended a two-game skid.

Josh Bell went 2-for-3 and homered to mark the lone run for Minnesota (67-74). Kody Clemens finished 3-for-4 for the Twins, who have dropped back-to-back games after winning three in a row.

White Sox right-hander Erick Fedde (8-8) defeated the Twins for the second time in less than a week. He held Minnesota to three hits in five scoreless innings, walked two and struck out two.

Twins right-hander Zebby Matthews (9-9) surrendered all four runs on four hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out four.

The defeat marked the first time in six starts that Matthews did not earn a victory.

The White Sox struck quickly in the bottom of the first inning. Matthews fired a fastball low and away, and Vargas took it the opposite direction for a homer to right-center field.

The blast marked Vargas' 30th home run of the season. His previous high was 16, which he set with the White Sox in 2025.

Braden Montgomery made it 2-0 with a blast in the second. He ripped a line-drive home run 419 feet to right-center field.

The power surge continued in the fourth as the White Sox increased their lead to 4-0. After Andrew Benintendi drew a one-out walk, Colson Montgomery hammered a towering, 416-foot homer into the right-center-field bleachers for his 30th of the season. His previous career high was 21, set last year as a rookie.

Bell put the Twins on the scoreboard in the ninth. He took right-hander Grant Taylor deep to right-center field for his 18th homer of the season.

Bell's homer and a double by Royce Lewis marked the Twins' only extra-base hits.
